    Projects in the UK

    Volunteering & Community Development

In East Sussex we are working with Shinewater Lane Community Hub.  This is a small voluntary run organisation that is in need of support in order to assist its development and aim of turning into a thriving community resource.  We have been working with the "hub" since the summer 2010, when we held our international youth exchange in their building.  Since then we have helped the management committee re-write most of their policies, assisted them in securing funding, offered management support by organising a series of team development days and we have also acquired funding for, and delivered specialist healthy eating "Master Chef" sessions to the young people that access the hub.
    The Maisy Rose Project

Young Maisy Rose was diagnosed with a rare but very aggressive form of cancer in the form of a brain tumor back in 2009.  Her dedicated parents Claire & Kevin, along with their family and friends desperately launched a fundraising appeal in order to get Maisy to America to receive life saving treatment.  Sadly, Maisy's condition deteriated  so quickly the trip had to be cancelled but Claire, Kevin and their close friends and family members continue to tirelessly fund raise in order to help other children such as Maisy.  The Maisy Rose Project is funding Brain Tumor research that affects children and babies.  Our research project is being carried out in the UK by one of the leading brain tumor research organisations.  To date, the Maisy Rose Project has raised over £50,000.

    Free First Aid Training

Wishing Well has been providing free first aid and other health related training courses to children & young people, volunteers and people who work for small voluntary organisations based in East Sussex since 2009.  Our first aid training is accredited by the Health & Safety Executive, this enables us to issue both the one day Emergency First Aid at Work and the 3 day First Aid at Work certificate.  Our courses have proved to be very popular with many youth leaders and community workers attending.

Poverty is Not History - Youth Exchange

In 2010 Wishing Well hosted a multi-lateral youth exchange, as part of the Youth in Action, EU youth programme.

40 young people participated in the exchange which took place in East Sussex.  8 Young people from the local area participated alongside young people from Turkey, Armenia, Romania and the Ukraine.

During the exchange the young people all participated in a range of workshops and debates .  One day was taken up volunteering at a local community event whilst another day included organising a photo exhibition along Eastbourne seafront.  Both the Eastbourne Mayor and Hastings Mayor met with the young people during the exchange event.  Sharon Bowles MEP and Stephen Lloyd MP also supported the event with guest appearances.
