Royal Army Physical Training Corps raise £1,450 for the new play room at the Wishing Well Centre

We are thrilled to have the support of Sgt Carl Amery and the Corps who completed an amazing challenge to benefit some of the children whom we work with. The Corps decided to complete an 8 mile TRUCK tyre flip to raise money to create a play room for orphaned children whom have special needs. The event took place in Germany on 25th October 2011 and raised an amazing £1,450. The challenge was completed by Sgt Carl Amery, WO1 Jay Tyler, SSgt Matt Arthur, SSgt Daz O'Donnell and SSgt Mark Allen. Event organiser, Sgt Carl Amery said, "I must say it was such a difficult day but every second of it was worth it due to the amount of money raised on the day. The team worked themselves to the bone and didn't stop once until the 8 mile point was reached. I am so pleased at the fantastic effort made by all." Here are the details of the final outcome of the challenge:
    Total distance – 8 miles (12.8 km)
    Total time – 5 hours 19 minutes 41 seconds
Total number of flips – 7025
Individual number of flips – 1405 each

The funds raised have enabled the completion of a wonderful room which the children really enjoy being able to play in. The Corps have also kindly agreed that some of their funding can be used to contribute to sponsoring the children to attend and for the purchasing of  healthy snacks and essentials such as nappies. We are extremely grateful for the support and determination shown by the Corps to make a difference to the lives of so many children. Many thanks also to everybody who was involved behind the scenes in making this event happen. Please have a look at the photographs below to see the working process and completed room.

    Thank You Intersnack UK

Many thanks to Intersnack UK for their kind donation of Pom-Bear crisps for the children whom we work with. Wishing Well volunteer Carla McBride contacted Intersnack to tell them how much the children in Romania love Pom Bears. Roxanne Amir-Mohammadi was so touched by the story she immediately decided to help. Intersnack sent a large donation of Pom-Bear crisps and Roxanne also held a collection at the office where colleagues donated children's clothes, toys, games, baby wipes etc. A kind donation of Pom-Bear kites and footballs were also donated and we know the children will have lots of fun with these.
Thank you to Roxanne and all involved in supporting our work with the children, we know the Pom Bears will be really enjoyed!

Carla McBride and Eleanor Burns were invited by Vice President, Peter Green to share their story, 'Our Road to Romania' with the Rotarians. The Rotary Club made them feel very welcome and were keen to hear of their work and the positive changes they are striving to make. After a presentation and Question and Answer session where the plans for developing a play room within the IRVC were discussed Peter Green presented Carla and Ellie with a cheque for £100. Ian Powell then presented a cheque for £250 from the International Rotary Committee. We are extremely grateful for the support and generosity from The Rotary Club and special thanks go to President Pat Byrne, Secretary Geoffrey Pearson who helped with the equipment, the Committee and Club Service. A personal donation of £100 was then given to assist with purchasing essential resources for the children. Carla and Ellie look forward to returning in September to share the news of the progress that has been made possible thanks to The Rotarians.
